Located in the Triad and the Yadkin Valley Wine Region, Davidson County is home to more than 160,000 residents, and covering 567 square miles. With the city of Lexington serving as the county seat, and the largest city being Thomasville, it has a long and rich history.

Formed in 1822 from Roan county, it is named after Brigadier General William Lee Davidson, an American Revolutionary Ware general who was killed at the Battle of Cowan's Ford on the Catawba River in 1781.

In 1911, when a new county was proposed called Piedmont County, which would've consisted of Guilford, Davidson and Randolph Counties, many residents opposed the plan, and the State legislature voted down the plan in February 1911.

One of the county's famous attractions is the annual Lexington Barbecue Festival, held during the month of October. The festival brings in over 100,000 visitors from across the southeastern US for the day long event.

Landmarks within Davidson County include Historic Uptown Lexington, Denton Farm Park, Walter Johnson Camp and Conference Center, the NC Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the Big Chair in Thomasville, which pays tribute to the county's furniture industry.

With the celebration of the Lexington Barbecue Festival, one of the two major styles of NC barbecue originated in Lexington. One will find many Lexington-style barbecue restaurants throughout the area, including Lexington BBQ ("Honeymonk's"), The BBQ Center, Whitley's BBQ Restaurant, Smokey Joe's, Backcountry Baebecue, Speedy's, Smiley's, Tarheel Q, Stamey's, Kerley's, and Cook's.
